Nuggets extend Karl’s contract through 2011
DENVER — Denver Nuggets coach George Karl agreed to a new contract that runs through the 2010-11 NBA season.
The team announced the deal Friday but did not disclose the financial terms.
Karl has led the Nuggets to a 35-18 record this season and will be coaching the Western Conference All-Start team this Sunday.
Karl has the second most wins in Nuggets’ history with 260 and has taken the team to the playoffs in each of the last five seasons. The team lost to the Lakers last year in the Western Conference finals.
“I think he deserves it,” Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony said. “I think he earned it.”
Karl joined the Nuggets in January 2005.
Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke says Karl earned the contract extension because he’s played a pivotal role in the team’s success.
