AtriCure posts smaller 4Q loss as revenue rises

WEST CHESTER, Ohio — Medical device maker AtriCure Inc. reported a smaller fourth-quarter loss on Thursday, primarily due to greater use of its devices in open heart surgeries.

AtriCure’s revenue rose 14 percent to $13.8 million from $12.1 million. Analysts expected a loss of 9 cents per share and $13.9 million in revenue, according to a Thomson Reuters survey.

The company said revenue from open heart surgeries performed in the U.S. rose 11.5 percent to $6.7 million, and revenue from international sales climbed about 46 percent, to $3 million.

For the full year, AtriCure said it lost $16.5 million, or $1.13 per share. In 2008, it lost $10.2 million, or 72 cents per share. Revenue slipped 1 percent to $54.5 million from $55.3 million.
