Timken wins Army contract for gearboxes

CANTON, Ohio — Aerospace parts maker Timken Co. won an order to supply engine nose gearboxes for the U.S. Army’s fleet of Apache Longbow helicopters, the company said Monday.

The company’s aerospace and defense business will make the left hand gearboxes at a factory in Manchester, Conn. The gearboxes transmit power from the engines to the main transmission, which powers the main rotor and onboard systems. The company also makes other parts for the Apaches.

Timken did not disclose the value of the contract.

Shares of the Canton, Ohio, company fell 20 cents to $26.34 in early afternoon trading.
