Daddy Yankee files suit against record companies
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee has filed a lawsuit accusing a record company and a distributor of illegally profiting from the sale of one of his albums.
Attorney Edwin Prado said Thursday that UGM Recording Inc. and Universal Music Distributor have continued to sell his client’s material even though their five-year contract to market his “Barrio Fino” album expired a few weeks ago.
The lawsuit seeks $10 million in damages. It was filed in U.S. District Court in the artist’s native San Juan.
The companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
