Slaughterhouse owner’s child labor charges dropped

WATERLOO, Iowa — Prosecutors dropped thousands of child labor charges against two defendants from an Iowa kosher slaughterhouse and allowed the company to plead guilty to amended charges.

Prosecutors dropped the charges Tuesday against former Agriprocessors Inc. owner Aaron Rubashkin and human resources employee Laura Althouse.

Former Agriprocessors manager Sholom Rubashkin — the owner’s son — still faces 83 charges in a trial that will begin with jury selection on Tuesday afternoon in District Court in Waterloo.

Sholom Rubashkin, the four others and the company originally faced more than 9,000 child labor charges.

Charges remain against former human resources manager Elizabeth Billmeyer and employee Karina Freund. Their trials will be held later.

It’s pathetic that, not only w/ so many Americans out of work this company is hiring illegals but hiring kids too. America broke up child labor in the 1800s. These people are trying to set American labor back centuries & drag us back down to a 3rd world level. Close all companies that hire illegals no matter what age they are.
