Evergreen Energy chairman resigns; CEO takes role

DENVER — Clean-tech company Evergreen Energy Inc. on Friday said its chairman resigned, eight weeks after being named to the post. The company’s chief executive, Thomas H. Stoner, will take over the role.

William G. Gibson, 61, who was elected by the board in January, was named chairman in July following his re-election at the company’s annual meeting.

The company did not say why Gibson left. In a statement, Stoner referred to his departure as “his retirement.”

Stoner, 50, has been CEO since June 2009, and served before that as a consultant to the company, according to regulatory filings. He was previously CEO of Econergy International from 1998 to 2008, and held the title of chairman at that company from 1996 to 2006.

Evergreen also said Manuel H. Johnson was named lead director. Johnson, 61, has been a board member since 2004.

Shares of Evergreen closed Friday down 2 cents at $1.45. The stock has changed hands between 85 cents and $12.96 in the past year.
