Recall news: Glass vases that break and mood rings

The following recalls have been announced:

—About 203,000 glass vases in the United States and 9,000 in Canada imported by The Gerson Co. of Olathe, Kan. The glass is described as very thin and more prone to breakage than one might expect — posing a laceration hazard to consumers. The firm has received nine reports of the vase shattering, including nine reports of cuts to the hands. The recalled 20-inch vases are made of clear glass and were sold at Michael’s stores from July 2006 through March 2010. E-mail the firm at recall(at)gersoncompany.com for more information.

—About 19,000 “Love Tester” mood rings and 4,000 necklaces imported by D&D Distributing-Wholesale Inc. of Tacoma, Wash. The metal rings and necklaces contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects. No injuries have been reported. The jewelry was sold at small retail stores nationwide from September 2005 through June 2010. Consumers can call 800-262-9435 for more information.
