Oil pipeline shut down in Mich. after small spill
ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A crude oil pipeline in Michigan has been shut down as a precaution after a small spill was discovered near Port Huron.
Sunoco Logistics Partners LP spokesman Thomas Golembeski says Thursday that a routine inspection Wednesday at the company’s Marysville pump station in St. Clair County’s St. Clair Township found crude oil on the ground.
Golembeski says the amount on the spilled oil was estimated at one barrel. A barrel is 42 gallons. Golembeski says the oil is contained to the pipeline operator’s property. No injuries were reported.
Golembeski says the 16-inch pipeline runs from Marysville to Toledo, Ohio, and it’s not known how long it will be shut down. The source of the leak is under investigation and federal authorities have been notified.
