Eli Lilly to sell smaller vials of insulin
INDIANAPOLIS — Eli Lilly & Co. said Tuesday it will begin shipping smaller vials of its Humalog insulin to hospitals.
Starting in January, the company said will sell vials that contain 300 units, compared to a typical 1,000-unit vial. Lilly said it is introducing the smaller vial based on responses from hospitals and the amount of time diabetes patients spend in the hospital.
The Indianapolis company said 1,000-unit vials of Humalog and Humulin will still be available, and so will pre-filled injection devices like its KwikPen.
Shares of Eli Lilly fell 22 cents to $36.85 in morning trading.
