Sprint Nextel, Talbots, AK Steel are big movers
NEW YORK — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market:
NYSE:
Sprint Nextel Corp., up 22 cents at $4.13
An analyst upgraded the company and said its combination with T-Mobile USA in the next 12 months is more likely than not.
Cooper Cos., up $2.62 at $36.54
The contact lens and eye care product maker posted strong fourth quarter results and gave a view of the new fiscal year.
Talbots Inc., up 24 cents at $8.47
The women’s clothing chain plans a complex refinancing deal to buy out its majority shareholder and lower debt by about $330 million.
AK Steel Holding Corp., up $1.20 at $20.49
The manufacturer announced some product price increases, citing stronger demand and a need to recoup higher costs of some materials.
PepsiCo Inc., down $1.68 at $61.80
The drink company trimmed its fiscal 2009 outlook because it is spending more to invest in developing markets such as China.
DeVry Inc., up $3.04 at $57.23
An analyst raised his estimates for the for-profit education provider a day after it reported better-than-expected fall enrollment.
Pfizer Inc., up 48 cents at $18.24
An analyst said the drugmaker is likely to raise its dividend up to 20 percent this month, less than a year after slashing its payout.

Investors learned that the digital entertainment company will not have to pay damages to VeriSign Inc.
