Kan. lottery chief hopes to see casino deal soon

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Kansas Lottery’s top official hopes a new plan for a Wichita-area casino will emerge in a few weeks.

Executive Director Ed Van Petten says lottery officials and the Chisholm Creek partnership are making progress in negotiations over a proposed contract to develop the state-owned casino.

Chisholm Creek attorney John Frieden agreed.

The lottery and Chisholm Creek had agreed previously on a proposal for a $225 million casino complex in Sumner County near Mulvane, about 20 miles south of Wichita.

But in December, Chisholm Creek requested and received time to revise its plans.

Kansas law provides for private developers to build and manage casinos under contract with the lottery.
