Recalls this week: Tea kettles, snowmobiles
NEW YORK — Snowmobiles that may catch fire and tea kettles whose handles might come loose top the list of recalled products this week. Just one burn from the kettles has been reported, but both products pose potentially serious risk of injury.
Toy floor hockey sets made with lead paint are also included. Lead is a particular hazard to young children, who can suffer a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death.

ARCTIC CAT 500 SNO PRO SNOWMOBILES
DETAILS: The recall involves all Arctic Cat 500 Sno Pro models from the 2010 model year. The U.S.-made snowmobiles were sold at Arctic Cat dealerships nationwide since October. The model name and number are located on the side of the seat and on the engine cowling.
WHY: Fuel can leak from the fuel pump at the fuel tank mounting screws, posing a fire hazard.
INJURIES: No injuries have been reported, but Arctic Cat has received two reports of fuel leakage at the fuel pump mounting screws.

ENAMELED STEEL TEA KETTLES
DETAILS: The recall involves Martha Stewart Collection, Copco and Wild Leaf Tea Co. Bristol model enameled steel tea kettles. They were made in Thailand and have finishes in several colors.
The kettles were sold online and by retailers nationwide, including at Macy’s and Linen N Things, from October 2004 through January for about $35.
WHY: The handle can come loose, posing a burn hazard.
INJURIES: One minor burn has been reported and eight reports of the handle becoming loose or deformed have been filed.

SPORTIME CHILDREN’S FLOOR HOCKEY SET
DETAILS: The recall involves BigBox Hockey Sets made in China for Sportime of Norcross, Ga., The sets consist of six 6-foot-long boards that come in six colors, used to create a playing area for children’s floor hockey.
They were sold through Sportime’s catalog and online from November 2006 through October 2009.
WHY: The surface coating on the boards contains excessive levels of lead paint.
INJURIES: None reported.

TRADER JOE’S CHOCOLATE CHIP CHEWY COATED GRANOLA BARS
DETAILS: A previously announced recall of the snacks, made by Bloomfield Bakery, was expanded to include all lot numbers. They were sold at Trader Joe’s stores nationwide.
WHY: The bars may be contaminated with salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

HEALTH VALLEY ORGANIC CHEWY GRANOLA BARS
DETAILS: The brand’s peanut crunch, dutch apple and wildberry granola bars, made by Lovin Oven LLC of Irwindale, Calif., were sold nationwide. The recall involves 6.1 ounce boxes with SKU numbers 0-35742-15483-4, 0-35742-15482-7 or 0-35742-15481-0 on the bar code on the bottom.
WHY: The bars contain organic toasted soy grits that have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
INJURIES: None reported.
