Argentine president: Open for more US investment
WASHINGTON — Argentine President Cristina Fernandez says her country offers a favorable business opportunity for U.S. companies and that a multibillion-dollar debt-swap offer to resolve a legal standoff with American bondholders will succeed.
She tells the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that Argentina offers an attractive market for investors and a good way for companies to compete globally, given its skilled labor force and competitive exchange rate.
Her comments Friday come ahead of a $20 billion debt-swap offer that Argentina hopes will satisfy bondholders and resolve lawsuits over its record $95 billion default in 2001.
