Military ships sail up Hudson for NYC Fleet Week
NEW YORK — Battleship gray is contrasting with brilliant blue skies as a parade of ships makes its way up the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey.
It’s part of New York’s 23rd Fleet Week, which started Wednesday.
About 11 military vessels sailed north to near the top of Manhattan island, then U-turned. Spectators lined the shore; some enjoyed the sights from aboard smaller boats.
The Fire Department of New York also plans to unveil a $27 million fireboat billed as the world’s most technically advanced. It will help bolster counterterrorism at the city’s ports.
Fleet Week events also include a ceremony on the deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
