SHOOTS, SCORES!: Sportswear maker Adidas AG lifts its full-year earnings forecast after posting strong second-quarter profit and revenue powered by World Cup fervor.
THE BACKDROP: The German company’s second-quarter earnings totaled euro126 million ($166 million) on revenue of euro2.92 billion ($3.84 billion), driven by the FIFA World Cup 2010 and the resurgence of the Reebok brand in North America. Adidas was one of the official sponsors of the World Cup and outfitted teams including champion Spain and third-place finisher Germany.
THE FORECAST: Adidas now expects earnings per share between euro2.50 and euro2.62, up from a prior forecast of euro2.05 to euro2.30. Last year it earned euro1.22 per share.
