NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- On Wednesday, Garmin Ltd. announced that it is recalling around 1.3 million Nuvi GPS devices sold all over the world. The company announced that the recall is being done after it found that the batteries of the units sold have the potential to get overheated and lead to fire hazards. Garmin Ltd. which is known world wide for its high-tech GPS devices and is one of the leading manufacturer in that field, has however said that the present recall will in no way affect the brand and the financial results of the company.

Garmin Ltd. in its statement maintained that the problem of over heating of batteries was noticed in a batch of batteries that were supplied by a separate company. The company maintained that it has noticed the problem of battery overheating in fewer than 10 cases as of yet. However, it added that none of the overheated batteries has led to any kind of property damage and injury. The concerned battery suppliers that had supplied the faulty batteries have reportedly agreed to share the cost of replacing the battery packs with Garmin Ltd.

As per reports, out of the 1.3 million Garmin Ltd.GPS units, 796,000 were sold in the United States. The company has urged the customers who have bought the device to take it to their nearby Garmin-authorized facility for replacement. It has instructed that any affected unit will be replaced without any cost by the company. As for others, owners of Garmin Ltd. GPS devices should not in any way attempt to remove or service the battery.
