Summary Box: Vivendi raises outlook despite 2Q dip
RESULTS: French media company Vivendi SA said second-quarter profit fell 3.5 percent due to fewer music releases from artists like Eminem and Lady Gaga. But it raised its full-year outlook as it expects strong results from video games and mobile services in emerging markets.
BOTTOM LINE: The company behind Universal Music, Canal Plus television, and mobile phone division SFR said net income dropped to €1.06 billion ($1.34 billion) from €1.1 billion. Revenue rose 6 percent to €7.06 billion ($9.04 billion).
REASONS: Fewer international releases and lower demand drove hurt Universal Music’s revenue. The company said releases are “heavily slanted” to the second half of the year.
