Carlson to build luxury hotel at Mall of America
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Carlson plans to develop a luxury hotel as part of the Mall of America’s Phase II upscale expansion in Bloomington, Minn.
Minneapolis-based Carlson said Wednesday it has signed an agreement with Mortenson Development Inc. to build a $130 million Radisson Blu hotel at the mall.
It would be the second Radisson Blu to open in the U.S. The first Radisson Blu is expected to open in Chicago’s Aqua tower in fall 2011.
Construction is expected to begin in December, with the opening planned for late 2012.
The hotel will feature a restaurant and lounge, spa and fitness facilities, more than 23,000 square feet of meeting space and an indoor pool.
Carlson has more than 1,075 hotels and more than 1,000 restaurants.
