Landmark London hotel to reopen after overhaul

LONDON — London’s landmark Savoy Hotel says it will reopen Sunday after a three-year total renovation that cost an estimated 220 million pounds ($366 million).

The hotel said Friday that the site, famed for its art deco entrance and location by the River Thames, has undergone one of the most ambitious renovations in British history.

Virtually the entire hotel — opened in 1889 — has been refurbished, including the rooms, suites, courtyards and riverside gardens.

Spokesman Brett Perkins says the first two nights after reopening are already fully booked and the hotel’s restaurants have been flooded with reservations.

The Savoy’s guest list has included stars like Bob Dylan, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, and the Beatles.
