Work to start on 2nd phase of Maine wind farm
DANFORTH, Maine — Work begins on another Maine wind farm this week.
A groundbreaking for the second phase of First Wind’s Stetson project near Danforth in eastern Maine is scheduled for Monday afternoon. State Energy Director John Kerry and Sen. Kevin Raye of Washington County are among the speakers.
The first phase of the project, which comprised 38 turbines on Stetson Mountain, was completed in January. Stetson II will include 17 more windmills. Together, the two Stetson projects will produce 82.5 megawatts of power.
Last week, a three-turbine project that will provide power needs for Vinalhaven and North Haven islands was opened. Two other major projects that will feed into the power grid are under construction in western Maine.
