NEW YORK — The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market:

Pfizer Inc., up 68 cents at $18.85
The pharmaceutical giant will spend up to $115 million for an Israeli biotech’s promising technology for a rare disease.
Guess Inc., up $4.77 at $41.82
The apparel retailer is well-managed, an analyst said a day after it forecast a better-than-expected profit for the fourth quarter.
Tata Motors Inc., up $1.58 at $15.90
A Morgan Stanley analyst upgraded the Indian car company on hopes for the Jaguar Land Rover unit acquired from Ford Motor Co. last year.
SandRidge Energy Inc., down 39 cents at $8.99
Purchasing oil and gas properties from Forest Oil with the help of a new stock offering will dilute existing shareholders.
Barrick Gold Corp., up $3.38 at $46.07
The gold miner eliminated all gold hedges in order to fully gain from surging gold prices, which hit another record Tuesday.

OmniVision Technologies Inc., down $1.56 at $12.40
The chipmaker’s quarterly sales and profit rose, but its outlook left the possibility that it would fall short of Wall Street views.
Staples Inc., up $1.12 at $24.44
