P&G sued over Whitestrips patent

CINCINNATI — A South Korean company sued Procter & Gamble Co. this week, claiming the consumer products maker infringed on two patents when it sold a version of its popular at-home tooth whitening products.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Delaware district court, LG Household & Healthcare Ltd. claimed P&G’s Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal used technology owned by the South Korean company, which holds two U.S. patents issued in 2004.

The 14-day supply of the whitening strips sells for about $45.

LG asked a federal jury to keep P&G from continuing to allegedly violate its patents and to award unspecified damages in the case.

P&G, headquartered in Cincinnati, said it does not discuss details of ongoing litigation.

P&G shares climbed 33 cents to $62.57 in morning trading Thursday.
