Vivus reports positive data on ED drug candidate
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Vivus Inc. on Monday reported positive test results for its erectile dysfunctional drug candidate avanafil, saying most men who took the drug were able to have sex within 15 minutes.
Two-thirds of men who took a 50 milligram dose of avanafil were able to have intercourse within 15 minutes, the company said. The number increased to 69 percent for men who were given a 100 milligram dose and 72 percent for those given 200 milligrams. For men who took a placebo, the rate was 29 percent.
The results came from a late-stage clinical trial. Vivus reported other results from the study in November, saying avanafil met its primary goal of improving erectile function. The company included 646 men in the clinical trial.
In morning trading, Vivus shares rose 48 cents, or 4.7 percent, to $10.69.
