Massey agrees to work with Indian company

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Massey Energy says it’s signed a deal to work with Indian company Jindal Steel & Power on potential underground coal projects in India, Mongolia, Australia and the United States.

Massey Chief Executive Don Blankenship says the agreement announced Tuesday promises to extend his company’s operations overseas. For Dehli-based Jindal, the pact promises lower cost and stable energy sources.

Jindal managing director Anand Goel says the company is looking forward to expanding its relationship with Massey.

Richmond, Va.-based Massey operates coal mines in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky.

Jindal operates steel, power, mining and oil & gas businesses among other things. It is a subsidiary of the Jindal Group.
