Merck executive is new Gates Foundation CFO
SEATTLE — Merck executive Richard Henriques will be the new Gates Foundation chief financial officer.
The foundation says Henriques will start his new job on April 19 in Seattle.
He replaces Alexander Friedman, who left a job on Wall Street two years ago to take the CFO job. A foundation spokeswoman says Friedman left the Gates Foundation last month to start a private investment firm. Friedman specialized in mergers and acquisitions as an investment banker at Lazard.
Henriques has been senior vice president of finance and corporate controller at Merck since 2006.
He will oversee the foundation’s financial functions, including accounting, planning and analysis.
Foundation CEO Jeff Raikes says Henriques’ role is critical to maximizing the impact of the foundation’s work around the world.
