Recalls: lettuce, Manouri cheese

The following recalls have been announced:

Freshway Foods of Sidney, Ohio, is recalling select Freshway and Imperial Sysco brand romaine lettuce products that were sold at in-store salad bars and delis at Kroger, Giant Eagle, Ingles Markets and Marsh stores, because they could be contaminated with E. coli.

This recall may be linked to an outbreak investigation in New York, Michigan and Ohio.

The recalled lettuce was available at stores in the following states: Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Mt. Vikos Inc. is recalling all size packages and all lot numbers of Mt. Vikos-brand Manouri sheep & goat’s milk cheese. The product could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children and others with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the Marshfield, Mass., company. The recalled cheese was distributed nationwide through retail and food service markets.
