Nardelli named non-executive chairman at NewPage

MIAMISBURG, Ohio — The former head of Chrysler and Home Depot, Robert Nardelli, was named non-executive chairman at NewPage Corp. on Tuesday after the company’s chief executive and also its board chairman resigned.

The coated paper manufacturer did not provide a reason for the departures of CEO E. Thomas Curley and Chairman Mark Suwyn.

NewPage’s vice president of human resources, Michael Edicola, also resigned.

Nardelli is the current chief executive of Cerberus Operating and Advisory Company, which is an affiliate of NewPage’s controlling stockholder.

Nardelli said in a statement that he will be involved in an ongoing basis as NewPage searches for a new CEO.

The executive shake-up comes after NewPage, based in Miamisburg, Ohio, withdrew a two-year-old plan for an initial public offering last month.
