GM cancels Friday shifts at Flint plant
DETROIT — General Motors said that it has canceled both Friday shifts at its production facility in Flint due to a parts shortage caused by a recent hurricane in Mexico.
GM said that it is notifying workers of the change, but that operations are expected to resume on Monday. The second shift for Thursday was still scheduled to occur.
Several other automakers, including Chrysler, have idled plants due to a disruption in the flow of parts from Mexico to U.S. vehicle assembly facilities. Hurricane Alex caused widespread damage in Mexico earlier this month.
