IOC sells free-to-air Olympic TV rights to Chile

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — The IOC has awarded the broadcast rights in Chile for the Vancouver and London Olympics to the TVN and Canal 13 stations in a deal worth about $1 million.

The deal, announced Friday, covers the free television and radio rights to next month’s Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2012 Summer Games in London.

TVN and Canal 13 also secured broadcast rights to the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, being held in Singapore in August, and the 2012 Youth Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria.

The pay-TV rights in Chile and the rest of South America, except Brazil, were awarded last year to ESPN.

ESPN is a unit of The Walt Disney Co.
