Matthew Simmons Dies Aged 67

ROCKLAND (GaeaTimes.com)- On Monday the Maine officials confirmed that Matthew Simmons, the famous energy investment banker who advocated for alternative energy resources and brought in front of the whole world the peak oil theory, has died at his North Haven island home. As per reports, Matthew Simmons body was found in his hot tub on Sunday and an autopsy carried out by the medical examiner’s office concluded that the death of the banker was caused by accidental drowning. The medical reports also suggested that Matthew Simmons‘ heart disease contributed to the drowning. He was 67 year old.

Mike Frazier, Chief Executive Officer of Simmons & Co., which was founded by Matthew Simmons in 1974, issued a statement on behalf of the staff members of the company on Monday. The statement held that the company, where Matthew Simmons had served as the chairman until last month, is deeply saddened by the “unexpected loss of a true visionary and friend” who had played a pivotal role in the lives of many of the company’s employees. Mike Frazier added that Matthew Simmons not only influenced the lives of the people of the in the organization but also of many others across the energy industry, adding that his absence will be “sorely missed”.

Maine Governor John Baldacci, remembered the Matthew Simmons as an innovative thinker who advocated ideas that would have led not only Maine but also the whole world towards a future that is more economically and environmentally sustainable. Matthew Simmons is famously known for his eye-opening book titled “Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy”.
