Recalls: hockey sticks, glass bottles, jackets

The following recalls have been announced:

About 67,000 youth and junior hockey sticks, shafts and blades made in China and sold at sporting goods stores nationwide from February 2005 through March 2010. Another 60,000 in Canada have been recalled. Paint and decals on the products have high levels of lead, which is toxic to young children if they ingest it. No illnesses or injuries have been reported. The recalled products, imported by Bauer Hockey Inc., of Greenland, N.H., come in various shapes, sizes and colors. The name “Bauer” and the model descriptions are on all the sticks, shafts and blades. Most of the sticks have the Nike symbol. About 42,000 glass water bottles, made in China and imported by Crate and Barrel, a division of Euromarket Designs Inc., of Northbrook, Ill. Another 2,200 were recalled in Canada. The glass bottles can shatter when a consumer is removing or inserting the stopper, posing a laceration hazard. The company received seven reports of the recalled water bottles shattering, including four reports of hand lacerations. About 6,800 chrome shelving units, made in China by King Long Metal Industrial Company, Ltd., of Trumbull, Conn., because the shelving unit casters can break at the stem, causing the shelving unit to collapse or fall and posing an injury hazard. There has been one reported incident. No injuries have been reported. The recall involves six tier chrome shelving units with the model number 392360. About 2,600 heated jackets and vests with Moshi Power Systems, made in China and imported by Ardica Technologies, of San Francisco, because electrical connections in the products’ warming components can overheat, posing a burn hazard. The company received five reports of overheating. No injuries have been reported. They were sold at sporting goods and outdoor equipment retailers from August 2009 through February 2010. About 12,000 Brightway indoor and outdoor extension cords and power strips, made in China by Howard Berger Co. Inc., of Cranbury, N.J., because the products have inadequate coating material, posing a fire hazard. No incidents or injuries have been reported. The recall involves Brightway heavy duty outdoor extension cords and Brightway indoor household extension cords and power strips. About 360 North-Sportif hooded jackets and 360 reversible vests, made in China and distributed by North-Sportif Inc., of New York, because the jackets and vests have drawstrings that can pose strangulation and entanglement hazards to young children. The Glutino Food Group of Lawrence, Mass., is recalling select bags of Glutino raisin bread, because they may contain eggs that are not listed with the ingredients. This poses a risk for people with egg allergies. No incidents have been reported. The bread was sold nationwide in the frozen foods section of stores. Details: by phone at 800-543-6637.

Zatarain’s is recalling 8-ounce packages of Zatarain’s Original Dirty Rice Mix with the “best by” code date of Jan. 19 12H. The recalled rice mix contains wheat and barley ingredients not declared on the packaging. Those who have allergies to wheat or barley run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they eat the product. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported, according to the Gretna, La., company.
