Ryan to take over as publisher of The Morning Call

BALTIMORE — Timothy E. Ryan, publisher of The Baltimore Sun, will add another Tribune Co. newspaper to his responsibilities, taking over next week as publisher and CEO of The Morning Call of Allentown, Pa.

Morning Call employees were informed Thursday of the move in a memo.

Ryan has overseen financial, business development, human resources and other departments at The Morning Call for the past 15 months. Now, the advertising and editorial departments will also report to him. Several other executives with the Baltimore Sun Media Group also have responsibilities at The Morning Call.

Ryan replaces Tim Kennedy, who has been publisher since 2006 and will leave the paper. Ryan will be the newspaper’s fifth publisher since 2000.

Tribune has also successfully consolidated publisher jobs at newspapers in Florida and Connecticut, according to the memo. The Chicago-based company is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
