Greenbrier receives $200 million order

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. — Railroad freight car maker Greenbrier Cos. said Monday that it received orders for an additional 3,000 new railcars valued at about $200 million.

The company said the orders consist of 2,250 double-stack intermodal platforms, 500 covered hopper cars, and 250 railcars of various types for the European market. It expects to deliver the railcars over the remainder of the year and in 2011.

Greenbrier said the new orders are in addition to the orders to build 1,700 new railcars and refurbish 1,100 existing railcars announced on Aug. 25.

Shares of Greenbrier rose $2.03, or 15.3 percent, to $15.29 in afternoon trading. The stock has traded between $7.42 and $18 over the last 52 weeks.
