USDA: W.Va. red meat production drops in November
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says red meat production in West Virginia dropped by 28 percent from October to November.
The agency says production last month totaled roughly 900,000 pounds of beef, veal, pork, lamb and mutton. That’s up 8 percent over November 2008, but down significantly from a month before.
USDA figures show commercial red meat production was also up slightly for the country as a whole in November.
Last month, commercial red meat production nationally was nearly 4 billion pounds, up 3 percent from November 2008.
